Ringside Maisie Pretty Good

I am watching this one now on TCM. They seem to be showing all the Maisie films on Saturday mornings.

George Murphy and Robert Sterling are in this one and they are both very good.

The story is interesting and Ann Sothern is at her loveliest in this entertaining Maisie entry.

I liked this one pretty well. I liked how they didn't go for the obvious ending I expected from the beginning, with Maisie ending up with Terry. Rather, the character of Skeets redeemed himself, and the movie ends with those two back together. The only loose end was Terry losing the girl, but that's how it goes in real life sometimes.

Just caught up with this on the DVR tonight. I really enjoy Ann Sothern, and the "Maisie" movies are great, and this one is no exception. It's very involving, and one cannot predict where the story is going. Great boxing scenes too!

Of course, Ann Sothern did (in real life) marry the young boxer played by Robert Sterling. He was particularly handsome here!

To a new world of gods and monsters!

She ended up with the wrong guy.

Yeah, Murphy's character was an a-hole. She should have ended up with Sterling, especially since his fiance bailed out anyway. While I was watching the movie, I thought maybe she was a bit mature for him, but then I learned that Sothern married Sterling in real life! No wonder the chemistry and affection between them in the movie seemed so natural.
