Jimmy S. sings?

There is one scene in this movie in the jail where it appears that Jimmy Stewart is actually singing in a song. I was just curious if anyone knew if this was his real voice and whether he's lent his singing voice to any of his other films. Just a trivia buff question that I was curious about.

Sincerely,

Hey. Yup, that was actually Jimmy singing. She also sang with his own voice in 1936 in Born to Dance released by MGM

It is indeed Jimmy's own quavering, reedy singing voice. As the other poster noted, he also sang in the much more lavish Born to Dance, where he introduced no less that the Cole porter standard, "Easy to Love" (!)

^^I don't think it sounded that quavery and reedy (whatever that really means).
It's actually pretty good, not great but good!

Ahhh, it's Jimmy Stewart, he can get away with it, lol!

It's not his voice in the dream sequences, only in the jail scene.

I agree; totally different voice - anyone know who had the honour?

It was Horace Heidt, the band leader who had been singing the male part of the song from the beginning. If you remember (or notice), after the first verse that Jimmy mimes, he stops and the singing continues. Jimmy checks his throat as if he's surprised that the song has continued.

Horace Heidt is credited as a performer on the song.

So this one time, at Band Camp ...

Yep, that's actually Jimmy singing! He also sang in the 1936 musical "Born To Dance". His voice was actually not bad, in my opinion.

I don't know whether to trust my memory - but I think a much older Jimmy Stewart sang on the Johnny Carson Show (the old 'Tonight Show') years ago. He was absolutely charming as he sang and it had nothing to do with his voice.
