When the hell did she get pregnant?

I'm watching this right now. They got married at night. They go on the train, he asks one of the workers "How long do we have?" The guy says "a few minutes". They did not have sex. I know because I'm watching this right now. Maybe there WAS a scene but in the film version I'm watching now, there was no way they had the time to conceive a child.

I thought they were told a "few minutes" so they decided that she would travel on the train for some of the way with him and then come home on a train the opposite way. Its about 10 years since I have seen the film though!

When they arrived at the next stop, there was a sign that said New York City was 115 miles away, so that leaves plenty of time.

She became pregnant approximately nine months prior to giving birth.

(Sorry, I just couldn't resist!)

Okay folks, show's over, nothing to see here!

D'OH!!! The joke is ruined! Dumb-a$$ ME forgot that Dunne's character miscarried due to the earthquake and had been injured to the point of not being able to bear children ever again -- hence, the adoptions.

She traveled about a hundred miles with him on the train so they could have a 'honeymoon'.

She traveled over a hundred miles on the train with him from New York to the next station, where she exited the train. They were't playing gin rummy in his compartment, that's for sure!

If they were, then that would have been the world's most boring honeymoon! The movie is on my DVR for watching this weekend. I just love it.

I'm always amused at how so many people seem to miss all references to sex in older movies; both pre-code and after the code went into effect. Like in this movie, it's usually done in very subtle ways but I suspect most of the adult audiences at the time understood exactly what was going on.

Today we're so used to seeing blatant sex scenes so there's never a question what happened. I'll take the subtle over the blatant any day; I find it a whole lot sexier that way.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
