Ida Lupino's accent

Maybe I missed something, but I don't understand why Ida Lupino's accent shuffles between British and American English. Was there some explanation given for this that I missed in the early part of the film? Thanks

Yes, at the beginning of the movie there was posted this disclaimer: "Please excuse Ida Lupino's wavering accent. She's a young English girl and we coached her in Brooklynese for your listening pleasure. We think she did a pretty darn good job for the most part." -- Jack Warner, in charge of production.

Lupino was born and raised in England. The fact that she spent the majority of her acting career doing such a perfect American accent that most Americans assume she was American was a real accomplishment on her part.
