Will be on Svengoolie on 12/19/2015

The Monster and the Girl (1941) will be shown on Svengoolie on MeTV on Saturday, 19 December 2015, at 9PM central time. 

I have never heard of this movie but it looks like a good one. 

Western star Rod Cameron is in this one. He lived a pretty quiet life away from the cameras, although he did have one brush with notoriety in 1960. He divorced his wife of ten years  and immediately married her mother,  who was a few years older than him. Also, despite his cowboy image, Rod Cameron was an accomplished pianist.

Thanks so much jamesbwill for tonight's Sven movie announcement  .

I haven't seen this one since my subject post last year on this board .

There are a few spoilers here on this thread too but it shouldn't ruin your decision on watching this film either
( IMPO please check this classic film out - in my past experiences certain write ups on films a lot of times never does a good movie any justice - best to view it for yourself that way you can make your own decision on it - I see spoilers as more of a guide to films than an out right give away of it ?  )   .

and I believe you will enjoy it too jamesbwill   .

It's a definite popcorn flick not to be missed IMPO anyway  .

You are most welcome, ms-zanadu. 

It should be a good one.

The Monster and the Girl also features Phillip Terry, the one-time Mr. Joan Crawford, but that marriage definitely didn't work out. 

What was most interesting too jamesbwill
( and according to these actors Wikipedia Pages )
was that both Joan Crawford and Phillip Terry each
were married more than just once in their lives
Joan 4 times and Phillip 3 times but of course
Joan was Phillip's first wife and
Phillip was Joan's third husband .
That's the standard heartbreak of Hollywood I guess ?   

Was this movie edited when it was shown on Svengoolie? It seemed to have a pretty short running time anyway, but where were all the gorilla attacks? The first one was simply shown as a wrecked apartment followed by a radio broadcast saying that the DA was killed. Any "violence" seemed to be off screen.

I'd expect that out of a poverty row studio like PRC but this was a Paramount production!

reply

It's actually a short film, running a bit under 70 minutes.

In that era, studios were reluctant to show explicit violence, which is probably why we get a "tell us, don't show us" film.
