I was struck by how similar "Meet John Doe" is to one of my favorite movies, "Network". John Doe is like Howard Beale, Ann Mitchell is like Diana Christensen, D.B. Norton is like Arthur Jensen, and Connell is a little like Frank Hackett.

Agreed. I need to rewatch Network but the newspapers' manipulation and agenda reminded me of Network, and of now. I guess the media were (almost) as bad back then.
