Webley-Fosberry Revolver

I dare say this would have been brought up in the past, but all the older threads have been deleted. The weapon used to kill Sam's partner Archer near the beginning of the film was incorrectly described by Sam as a 'Webley-Fosberry' automatic pistol of .45 calibre and 8 rounds capacity. While the weapon briefly shown was a Webley-Fosberry. it is a hybrid design that uses a cylinder like a revolver that holds 6 rounds of .455 ammunition (as used in the conventional Webley service revolvers)-to any casual observer it would simply look like a revolver-it's also a very large and heavy weapon that would be difficult for a woman like Mary Astor's character to use easily-it was also described by her as being carried around in his coat pocket as a 2nd weapon by the chap she was after, again it's far too big and heavy for that!

The Webley-Fosbery was an "Automatic" pistol due to the fact that upon firing, the whole upper part of the gun recoiled, turning the cylinder and cocking the hammer for the next shot. It has a distinct zig-zag groove on the cylinder. It was also used by Sean Connery in the opening sequence of the movie "Zardoz".
