Powell in drag

To me his drag scene was so unexpected! It was hilarious and added so much to a very imperfect film. I thought he really morphed into a completely new character, and i found myself totally forgetting that it was really Powell dressed as the old lady, then of course I'd remember, which made the whole thing funnier still!

I absolutely love that scene...especially how "Miss Ireland" keeps slapping Ward. The whole bit was priceless. I thought Powell had some really great moments in this film, but he sure made one ugly woman! ;)

I loved it when the record player spindle unraveled the "bosom."

several fun gags in here... the meal in reverse, Ward Willoughby, the slippery carpet. Writers are David Hertz & Wm Ludwig (wrote all the Mickey Rooney stuff.) Fun stuff.

I loved the carpet slip part! I had totally forgotten that the first two had slipped on it when Ward went running toward the door and I completely laughed out loud again when he took his fall on it! It was such a funny movie all around and I loved it.

Definitely a gem of a movie. I stumbled across it channel surfing the Comcast On Demand and found it as a free TCM movie. I felt it started slow but by the end I was laughing at loud.

Yes, when Powell slapped Jack Carson, very very funny !

I agree he made one ugly woman but this movie was great and hilarious! I loved the "Lunacy Commission." A team of doctors who are supposed to determine who's nutty. All those docs looked nutty themselves!

To think that this was BEFORE Mrs. Doubtfire and Tootsie ! William Powell did a wonderful job as "Miss Ireland". Very subtle mannerisms and voice change and giving up his trademark moustache he really disappeared into the character. It was a treat. I found this movie by accident on YouTube marked LC. As a fan of Myrna Loy and William Powell ,they were a great team, I really enjoyed it and Jack Carson as "Willoughby,Ward Willowby" was hilarious. They truly do not make movies like they used to. What a shame.
