Question about safe deposit box
Safe deposit boxes today have 2 locks. 1 lock is opened by a master key that is in the bank's possession. The other lock is opened by a key that the bank gives to the customer to hold onto. The box can't be opened without both keys present so the bank can't open a box without the customer's key unless they drill into the box.
In The Little Foxes, it seemed that the box only required 1 key, which was in the bank's possession. So anyone working at the bank with access to the bank's key could open a customer's box without the customer being present.
Was that really how bank safe deposit boxes worked in 1941?
