Totally agree. I think it was one of the most sexiest female characters ever, and Bette looked absolutely stunning in it. Very often her body and face are quite underrated, but Bette as "Regina Giddens" gave the proof that she could look beautiful and sexy when the role needed it.
Certainly she looks absolutely gorgeous in The Little Foxes.

shareI agree! Let's see them try to get any of today's superstars' waistlines that small. Actually, Bette Davis designed her own makeup for this role and she wasn't intent on being beautiful. She coated her face in calcimine, a type of whitewash. William Wyler, the film's director, hated it but Bette wouldn't budge an inch. It was her opinion that the character needed to appear somewhat dated, like the chalky beauties from what would have been Regina's youth. You're correct though. Visual perfection!
shareWell, the tiny waistline came from using 1900-style corsets in her costumes, and most modern actresses are thin enough to get a tiny waist. They'd need padding above and below to achieve an authentic hourglass figure, though, and I'll bet Davis didn't.
Davis said that she was not in agreement with the production design for FOXES as it was too up-to-date and automatically gave the audience the impression that the family was well-off, and thus making her machinations to obtain money seem unnecessary. She felt that Regina's clothes should have been slightly out-dated.
Of course, producer Goldwyn was known for liking his movie sets to be "pretty" - even the slum in DEAD END!

shareShe had huge boobs and a tiny waist. One of my mother's friends was a childhood friend of Davis's daughter. When she stayed with them in Maine during a break, Davis would answer the door naked. She said her boobs were huge and saggy by that point.

shareI agree she looked good in Jezebel, and also in "Now, Voyager" after her makeover. I thought she looked hideous in this movie, with that pasty white makeup and dark lipstick. But she was very powerful, which I suppose is attractive in itself.
