I have never thought this movie was that wonderful. All the slapstick stuff with Henry Fonda seemed stupid and not half as funny as any 3 Stooges Comedy. The sets and Stanwyck are fun to look at but whatever it is thats supposed to be so great about this film, escapes me. In fact I feel the same about all of Sturges directed films. They're just stupid.
You want to be careful about dismissing the work of an acclaimed artist as stupid. To most people, it's very clear who is stupid when you say something like that, and it's not Sturges.

I agree with you about the slapstick, and a number of friends encouraged Sturges to take it out, but he just loved it.It is, nonetheless, a really great movie.

Perhaps you were expecting the Three Stooges? Sturges's films are sui generis, and you have to figure out how to take them.

Anyone who thinks The Three Stooges are funnier than Preston Sturges is probably somebody who watches wrestling and considers Carl's Jr. a fine restaurant. You don't have to like the film, but don't compare a sow's ear to silk please. You only look foolish.

I never know what to do with posts such as yours. You clicked on reply to me as if you were replying to me, but I didn't say that.I agree with you, and it would be less ambiguous if you replied to the people that you are disagreeing with rather than me.Or if you want to reply to me, tell me that you agree with me and don't seem to attribute to me something that I did not say and disagree with.

Well, you cleared up my confusion. You simply cannot read with any degree of comprehension.I will not make the mistake of taking you seriously again.Ignore.

I love Preston Sturges's movies. I also watch Impact Wrestling every Thursday. Your reliance on ridiculous stereotypes matches your inability to understand the proper use of the reply button, and your lack of reading comprehension and basic courtesy.
I haven't seen the Stooges but I thoroughly enjoyed this film, thanks mainly to Barbara Stanwyck. My only real complaint is I wanted it to last longer. It's a terrific film, not the kind of comedy I guess some are expecting, but while it may not be laugh out loud funny, it is always fun. Even though it's mostly light there are some serious scenes, one in particular carried beautifully by Stanwyck, the kind of scene Oscar just loves. 9/10
