WOW, Eleanor's Dancing !

Just saw the dance sequence in this movie. Eleanor Powell was the best ! They should put together a DVD of all her dance sequences from all her movies.

That would be awesome! That's Dancin' had a lot of bits with her, but not nearly enough.

She was amazing. I don't think she got the recognition she deserved.

Just saw this on TCM--wow indeed!! The dancing was absolutely amazing. What a cool movie. I adored how she danced with her terrier in the apartment. Who knew that the sport of canine freestyle & heelwork to music was going on (albeit not officially and competitively) in the 40s?!? That sequence was as awesome as the dancing dogs I just watched at Crufts.

Did you see That's Entertainment III, where they show how that whole sequence was filmed? Fascinating!

Was there a better dancer than Eleanor? Not that it matters, it's all opinion, but when I watch EP I feel like I'm watching a female combo of Fred and Gene. I'm not the most knowledgable musical fan, I don't say these things as definitive, just the feeling I get when EP dances. I shudder to think she was a battered woman if that is indeed true. To what extent it was I don't know either. But she's sure in control up on the screen!

It was a great sequence. But I had the clear feeling that there were more taps recorded than Eleanor Powell actually danced. Out of sync or what? I don't know. It was just something I noticed. And I might add in the goofs section--someone pointed out that when she does cartwheels, the taps continue.

I haven't checked that moment myself, but it does sound like someone was asleep at the switch for a spell. Of course, ALL taps in musical films are dubbed, as the musical soundtrack is put in after the editing is completed. But Astaire, for instance, would supervise the tap dubbing closely himself: he would supply his own and his choreographic collaborator would supply Ginger's. I'm sure he was equally meticulous with other dance partners. But in this case, it would seem that Powell left the dubbing to someone else who wasn't sufficiently careful.
