Classic

I've only recently started getting back into old movies again, and I thought that after immersing myself in Hitchcock and murder mysteries, old comedies and family movies would seem silly and overdramatic. After seeing this though, I've changed my thinking. This is a great movie. The pace is excellent, the acting is genuine, and the main characters are complex yet likeable, even at their worst. Shirley Temple's character in particular is very likeable, even though she can seem bratty at times. Its easy to see her as an endearing yet realistic adolescent and not as a priveleged, spoiled child. Her fantasy sequences are especially interesting and realistic, conveying typical childhood wishes that are expected to come true and then leave the child with an enlightening sense of reality when they don't.

Thank you TCM for introducing me to the lighter side of the black and white era.
