Acting

You can tell how good an actor Robert Taylor is in the contrasts of the opening scenes when he is basically 3 different people: the humble, aw-shucks cab driver on parole, the crooked, suave racetrack owner, and the amiable family man socializing. The shifts are so well-realized. His voice, his posture, the light in his eyes even--all change so dramatically.

reply

Agreed, onegreendress,

He was a very talented actor and wonderful in this film.

reply

Yes, Taylor was a very good, and underrated actor. Heflin was spectacular. Turner was also very good.
