vic mature

Rest in peace in st. michael's cemetery. You were some great big beautiful hunk of a man!

I guess he might have turned on the gals, but I never thought he had it as an actor except in this film and in Kiss Of Death although Richard Widmark stole that movie from him.

I was born when she kissed me. I died when she left me. I lived a few weeks while she loved me.

Robert Mitchum had to wear an old suit of Vic's in Farewell my Lovely.
He referred to it as "Victor Mature's farted-up suit."

The film belongs to Laird Cregar, but I think Victor did fine. Next to 'Kiss of Death', I think he did best in 'Cry of the City'. And his turn as a washed up has-been in 'After the Fox' is very autoironic and entertaining. The man was also very humble (his pun 'I'm no actor and I've got 64 movies to prove it' is classic): he could be a wooden presence in his most unremarkable projects, but, at his best, I think he was a capable and charismatic performer. If, back in the day, he was often overlooked because of all the heavy-hitters that were around, we'd certainly need more natural stars like him these days.

I don't see any mention in this page of the remake, titled "Vicky", with Jean Peters and Jeanne Crain playing sisters. The part of Laird Cregar was played by Richard Boone. Both films are very similar, I'm not sure which one is better.

I've seen both films and I think this is much better.

We've discussed Vicky here:

What about My Darling Clementine? He looks nothing like Doc Holiday, but I thought he did a pretty good job regardless.

His face is such a combo of masculine and feminine. Especially in full front close ups.

"I slept with you and you're in love with my husband. What the hell am I supposed to do with that?"

I've just watched his daughter Victoria give a 13 minute introduction to 'I Wake Up Screaming' at the 2022 Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival. Any fans of this movie and Victor Mature will be interested in what she had to say. It's now on You Tube.
