This movie sucked!

I relize movies were different back in the day, but this movie still bad. So many storylines, and none were still there by the next scene let alone resolved. The only storyline threw out movie was love she had for him and that was built up and then ends with a few words as goes into the mine. God this movie sucked bad!

It's nothing to do with "different back then". Bosley Crowther, who liked the film, pointed out the same thing as the main weakness in his review back in 1941.

And that is the weakness of this picture. For in spite of its brilliant detail and its exquisite feeling for plain, affectionate people, it never forms a concrete pattern of their lives. Opportunities for dramatic intensity, such as that in which Huw saves his mother's life, are deliberately thrown away. And the obvious climactic episode, in which Huw's father is killed in the mine, is nothing more than a tragic incident which brings the story to a close. Apparently the intention was to have the film follow the formless flow of life. But an audience finds it hard to keep attentive to jerky episodes for the space of two hours.

Traz-3; The film was originally to be shot in Technicolor and be four (4) hours long and on location. A sort of Welsh GONE WITH THE WIND. When brought down to two (2) hours a lot has to go. Personally I seldom take Bosley Crowther seriously, another Critic who enjoyed tooting his own horn.
