What happened to the two cops that showed up - after they went through that passageway?
Did they ever show up again? Or are we supposed to assume that they were killed?
They weren't really cops. They were with the guys that showed up at the end to try to get the money from Bud and Lou.

I think it's pointed out in the DVD commentary track that the point of these fake detectives, and some explanation as to their fate, was in the script but lost in editing. Basically they are looking for Moose's hidden treasure, which is why they go through that secret passage. I never got that the cops were fake or crooked, and always thought it was the eeriest part of the movie how they disappeared without notice by anyone else in the cast.
