ABBOTT AND COSTELLOS BEST FILM

I think easily this is A&Cs best film --- timing - youth and script were DEAD ON !!!

Their 2nd best is Meets Frankenstein but this was made 7 years before that and the boys were fresh and at top form and not in need of superstar monster actors to lead the film ---

Love them both though ---

I'm not an A&C aficionado, but Hold That Ghost was on cable, so we watched it. I loved it! Joan Davis and Lou Costello were so funny. So I tried to watch Buck Privates, and I was bored (plus I thought it seemed more mean-spirited). My 8yo son really likes A&C Meet Frankenstein, so we watched it tonight, and again, I just didn't think it was as good as Hold That Ghost. Better than Buck Privates, but Ghost is the best I've seen so far.

Both films were my favorites growing up

Both "Hold that Ghost" and "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" had the candle gag.

I'm not a fan of Abbott and Costello. Actually Abbott is okay, but Costello is just plain irritating. Having said that though, I did like both this and Frankenstein. This movie was great though (in spite of Costello and not because of him). I love the atmosphere. The wonderful storm and the creepy hotel. Great stuff.

I loved the Abbott and Costello films as a kid (and I still do, though I watch them less frequently). I didn't see them all, just the five or six that my local video store had (I recently received the DVD boxed set as a gift but have yet to dig into any of the ones I haven't seen before).

Anyway, Hold That Ghost has consistently been my favourite. I still crack up every time I watch it. Almost every gag lands, the pace is brisk, and the supporting cast is absolutely perfect (especially Joan Davis - I love that she didn't just have to play it straight next to the duo and was able to score some major laughs on her own). Plus the spooky setting is just so well done. Comedy gold and just a ton of fun from start to finish!!

It's definitely one of their best films they've ever done and I absolutely love the "moving candle" scene and the bed changing scenes.

I thought Joan Davis added a lot to this film and felt she and Costello would've made a great comedy team!
