Why on Earth?

Why on earth isn't this terrific little movie not out on VHS or DVD?
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I was wholly impressed by how absorbing this movie was.

I haven't even SEEN this film but would very much like to. A lot of other Paramount classics have been released on DVD so hopefully this one will eventually.

This is the best chick flick this man has ever seen...and I've seen plenty of them in my 52 years. I saw it a number of years ago on Turner Classic Movies. Saw it one time and have raved about it ever since. Someday -- soon, hopefully -- someone will do movie fans a favor and release it on DVD.

Hi,

I too cannot understand how come Paramount hasn't thought about releasing it on VHS or DVD(even better)! It's a wonderful movie- I loved every bit of it! Isn't there anything we can do to get it released? Write to Paramount, etc.??

Universal actually owns the rights to most of the old Paramount films. It is they folks should contact regarding release. If you buy old Paramount Studios movies that have been released onto DVD, you will notice that the DVD's were put out by Universal. One good thing is that, like Warner's, Universal is now releasing some older films that there may not be a large enough market for full out DVD release for through an on-demand program. Hopefully, they'll release some of the old Paramount movies this way. I do historical research related to the Paramount movies that shot scenes at the Studios' old movie ranch, which still exists to this day as a National Park, and it has been frustrating to have viewing access to so few of the old Paramount movies. Hope this helps!

I have no idea why its never been released on home video. It was nominated for six Academy Awards in 1941, including best picture, actress, screenplay, musical score, cinematography and art direction. It is the final writer-only screenplay from the legendary Billy Wilder before he was finally allowed to direct his scripts. It is a wonderful movie and was once justly famous. There is simply no understanding its exclusion from home theatre.

I'm amazed that someone has not issued this "terrific little movie"- one of my
very favorites and one I could watch over and over.

I LOVED this movie. I was expecting it to be good, but I was still surprised at how enthralled I was and how much I loved it.

I thought the movie was really beautifully photographed. Something about it was very dream-like and alluring, I think maybe the cinematography mixed with the music and acting. Olivia de Havilland and Charles Boyer had great chemistry.

This is 1852 dumplin', 1852. Not the dark ages!
