Bad Editing?

This movie is an enjoyable if slight soaper but I found the editing, particularly in the first hour often quite, for instance in one confrontation scene with Bette and Mary, Mary is laying back kind of slinky and then we get a very brief closeup of Bette and back to a shot with Mary and her posture has completely changed. There were also some scenes which suggest nobody bothered to use marks to make sure the actors were standing in the same spaces for the various takes so the distance between them changes after closeups, etc.
