Help! I missed something major here

Of necessity I've been 1/2 watching the movie on tcm tonight, 1/2 something else. I've apparently missed a major plot point somewhere, because I thought the character played by Greo Brent was dead! I walk back in here and there he is...what happened!?!

Thanks..I ordered it from netflix that night so I could give it proper attention...and I ageree, its a big treat watching both actresses at the top of their game, and so different watching Bette Davis as the nice and noble character!

Not only am I not a pianist, I'm so musically-challenged I Don't even know what multiple playbacks are! But I did love the music in this. Watching the entire film, I really enjoyed it...and the twotitans of cinema were at the top of their game here!

I don't have the netflix viewer, but I have a large-screen laptop that I watch alot of thier instant-viewing offerings on. Someday I'll conquer my phobia re: electronics/technology and figure out how to hook up my computer to my tv. Whether or not the device is worth it may depend on your favorite or most-watched genres. If you watch mainly new releases, you can easily get those movies from other sources, but if you have a taste for out of the mainstream or osbcure films (i.e, silent films or foreign films) then netflix if often a gold mine for those.

Astor's piano playing is atrocious - no understanding at all of piano or playing .. it was one of the first things that made me cringe about this movie and it went downhill from there :-(

From what I understand,, the reason she got the part was because Betty Davis saw her playing the piano (in real life) and wanted her for the part. She began taking lessons when she was very young and was an accomplished pianist (in real life).. Although,, for some reason,, the piano scenes were dubbed.. Go figger...
