Maggie told Aunt Ada the baby was...

Violet's? When Aunt Ada comes over to be with Maggie when she gets the phone call that Pete is alive, Ada hears a baby cry and Maggie says "Oh, that's Violet's." WTF? And then later they all come back from the airport where they were going to meet Pete, but Pete is already there in the baby's room, Maggie goes up and they reunite. So we're supposed to believe the baby was kept secret from Aunt Ada? Unless I missed something, this is way more than a plot hole or something minor overlooked...it's a huge mistake. Can anybody explain?
