GREAT NEWS: this is NOW available on DVD

This, the greatest film ever, is now, at long last available at a price you can afford: $9.99 .

Get it at YesAsia.com http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-j/section-videos/pid-1004225657/

It is a Korean DVD (UniOne Media) with English sub-titles. I have not seen it yet - as it is, I have the original DVD release - but it will be reviewed here http://www.dvdbeaver.com/ soon.

ummm, a bit overexcited maybe?
Don't think so.

The Beaver http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/Reviews/47_ronin.htm liked it a lot too:

"Most film aficionados outgrow discussions of the "greatest films of all time." Not me. For more than a decade I've had three favorites. Stan Brakhage's Arabics, a series of abstract silent films of perpetually shifting colors and shapes and spaces, is one; another is Roberto Rossellini's mystical, expansive personal documentary India. And the third is Kenji Mizoguchi's two-part, four-hour Genroku Chushingura (usually translated as "The Loyal 47 Ronin of the Genroku Era")..."
It's not even the greatest film ever with the title, "Chushingura"
How do you mean?

It is not really a samurai flick pers se, it transcends the genre. This film touched me greatly.

It's perhaps a little silly to stick one's head out saying that this is the greatest films ever considering what there is out there, but hey, it's only for fun. But I stick with my verdict. No.2, by the way, is Kobayashi's "Harakiri" http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReview3/harakiri.htm . And yes, Kurosawa is right up there too at the top of my list. A list which may, of course, change as I continue to watch more/other movies.

I take it you have seen the film in question?

Interesting. Very. If I interpret the Babelfish translation correctly, it should be out now. Official cost $50. I shall have to investigate this. I wonder if it has English subs.

Thanks for the link, pope_hentai-1.

Lke you really need subtitles to enjoy this.
Are you just being highminded or do you perhaps speak Japanese?

This film is absolutly horrible. A complete waste of almost 4 hours. It really is that bad. Its so disappointing because I was hoping for a really well done movie like Sansho the Bailiff.
