Am I the only one who was upset by Dumbo and his mom being separated?

It's just that most people who talk about traumatic scenes in this movie zoom in on the pink elephants. As a young child, they didn't bother me at all (though it took me a few years to figure out why there were there XD)

But the scene where Dumbo's torn away from his mom and she's beaten away from him with a whip and chained up as she tries desperately to get to her child...when I was a kid, that completely destroyed me. Even as an adult, I have difficulty watching it. For me, that one ranked higher than the donkey scene in Pinocchio.

-"I may be on the side of the angels, but don't think for one second that I am one of them."

I cried so much as a kid at this scene, and then when she cuddles him through her jail cell bars. Heartbreaking!

Of course you're not the only one. The whole point of the scene is to upset the audience.

Indeed.
It is an uneven movie, but that is some powerful scenes.

I don't remember how old I was when I saw this (on Sunday night on the Walt Disney World of Color), but it was the first time I ever cried watching a movie - I'm guessing I was maybe 5 at the time, and I was sobbing. I remember my mother holding me and telling me it was just a story, not real. I'm 66 now and have never forgotten that.
