Why Did The Military Cooperate With The Making Of This Film?

We were not at war yet, but by 1941, most people felt that it was inevitable. The quality of American military technology was probably the lowest of all industrialized nations in 1940.

This movie gives out pretty specific details about pressure suits and cabins which were a huge problem with aircraft. In many ways, the movie was ahead of it's time. The B-17, which played a huge part in WW II was not pressurized; the B-29, which was used extensively in the Pacific, was.

I'm sure the Germans and Japanese were working on the same problems in their aircraft, but what was the purpose in tipping our hand?

Was it to reassure Americans that our military was up to speed, or was it to warn the Japanese and Germans that the USA military was catching up and would be ready in case of war?

I was wondering some of the same things, especially after reading that much of the medical equipment was real, and how many of the planes ended up at Midway. In the end I just enjoy the fact we have these wonderful color images of our early Army Air Force planes.
