Pretty good

This is a pretty good movie. Not as good as the other Curtiz/Flynn collaborations, but still good. I love the flight photography, and seeing Flynn wearing Bogart's Rick Blaine costume in the bar!

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

Saw it on TCM last night and I don't know how I managed to never see this before. I really enjoyed it. The Technicolor photography, the early-WWW2-era naval planes, the ships -- including the USS Enterprise -- all of which would see action agaist Japan only a few months later in the South Pacific --- all amazing.

It's incredible to think that only a few months after this movie was released, the U.S. would be bombed at Pearl Harbor and enter World War II. A lot of these planes, and the pilots that fly them in this film, were shot down and the pilots with them in battles only a few months after this was filmed.

Flynn and MacMurray made a great movie team. Great chemistry. Good movie all around. They all chain smoked in this.

It sure is pretty good. But I guess I should've expected it to be nothing less than pretty good, with Curtiz at the helm. Great cast, too. I can't figure how it only gets a ' 6.6 ' rating, though.
