It's funny you should ask that, because I was just thinking how there might be more than one version. It's not uncommon for more than one version of the same movie to be made during shooting – this happens quite often in the European film industry, when they make one version in a European language, and another version in standard Americanized English.

Anyway, what led me to believe that there's more than one version of this movie is that a year or so ago, I seem to remember watching this movie online, and Jean Arthur's here was very dark in it. She had dark brown hair. And I remember thinking that it looked awful on her! Well, I just got through watching the movie again, and her hair is not brown. In this movie, her hair is clearly blonde.

And when I see people referring to her as a brunette in the reviews, it lets me know that there has definitely been more than one version of this film. Because she's definitely not a brunette in the one I just watched. She seemed to have had her signature blonde hair – only it was a few shades darker. But it was still blonde. And I think she looked very much better in this version at I just watched, then when I saw her with the dark hair.

Does anyone else know anything about more than one version of this film floating around? Because it definitely seems like there's something to that idea.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

I would think it's more likely due to the quality of the print. This was just released on dvd by Olive Films and it's an RKO film, they are not known to be popular movies that sell easy and are restored like classic WB movies (for example), I've never seen it shown on tv, so I would guess nobody restored it properly before Olive did, and I know bad prints and deteriorated old ones can ake a film look very different.
The first poster talks about editing, and the second about hair color.
Now, editing is one thing and the reasons quotes are not unusual, but hair color would mean that they re-filmed the movie, and if that had been done, it would be known in this day and age.
