Love Karloff But Hated This

Come on people, this turkey is a real stinker. I love Karloff films, but this is unscarey, unatmospheric, and that hideous narration by the insipid daughter! I will admit, that Ann Revere was fun, but otherwise this is not worth anyone's time.

You are definitely in the minority, monsewer.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Personally, I loved it. Take your point about the narration, though. Sounds like it's being read by someone who's never seen written English before!

If you want a stinker with Karloff in, try The Ape. Or for Lugosi, The Ape Man, one of the worst films I've ever seen. Devil Commands is a great little B movie.

reply

Ya know, I don't even mind the narration, there was something creepy about that dead-voiced way she was reading the lines.

I kinda have to agree with the OP. This one falls low on the totem pole of Karloff films. Will I watch it again sometime? Yeah, I'll probably want to refresh my memory at some point, but this one is not that great.

Prichard is right to call out 'The Ape.' An even more disappointing one is 'The Island Monster' (1954).

I thought it was pretty good ,my favourite of the mad doctor films (American films). The scene where all the dead bodys are inside the suits and moving around is creepy as it come's !
