That was actually a pretty frightening effect. When the housekeeper first turned them "on", I thought they were gonna get up and start walking around. Too bad the movie didn't do more with this. It definitely reminded me of the "Resonator" in From Beyond

Of course they were all dead people he had gathered to try to communicate with his dead wife. Electricity + corpses (sound like Frankenstein?)
