Introducing Mary Anderson


The credits said introducing Mary Anderson. But she had been in pictires for several years.I wonder why this billing?

That's not the first time I've seen this done and used to wonder about it myself. Fortunately, I saw a documentary on early Hollywood in which it was discussed. It was done, apparently, to feature a certain actor because the studio thought or hoped it would be a break-out role for that particular actor. Obviously, it doesn't always work out that way. We have the luxury of seeing these movies years later so we know how their careers evolved or stalled beyond their 'introduction' movie.
