Mary Beth Hughes + Ted North

I love this Charlie Chan; one of my favorites. Interestingly, Hughes and North were a married couple. I could never figure him out. He worked second leads in minor films for years, then suddenly he was given the starring role in Michael Curtiz' "The Unsuspected"! And he changed his name to Michael North! After that, he completely dropped off the radar. Does anyone know anything about this intriguing (to me!) couple?
