Why "Blues" in the Night?

The only time I noticed the music got bluesy in delivery was the a cappella performance of the black inmates doing "Blues In the Night" in the jail. The white band was inspired by them, then go off and do pop music?

According to Wikipedia, the film was originally titled "Hot Nocturne" but was renamed once the song "Blues in the Night" started to hit. They do work in the "Blues in the Night" theme multiple times throughout the movie.
