Blu-ray review for 'Blood and Sand'

With its bold colors and intricate art direction, this film is an ideal match for Blu-ray. The 125-minute running time could have probably been trimmed by about 10 or 15 minutes (though I wouldn’t touch a second of the sensual paso doble dance between Hayworth and Quinn), and the best parts of this grand, cynical bullfighting drama give the viewer a peek into that unique culture.

I agree that the Blu-ray of BLOOD AND SAND is outstanding. The sets and the use of Technicolor are dazzling and unlike the Technicolor Fox film of THE BLACK SWAN the source material comes from the three-strip Technicolor and not the Eastman color dupe done for SWAN. BLOOD AND SAND looks like Technicolor while THE BLACK SWAN does not. Also enjoy the commentary track by Richard Crudo (only for those interested in cinematography) which fails only in not giving Rouben Mamoulian credit for much of the film's color schemes. He played a major role in the look of the film.
