How many people does Captain Marvel kill in this serial?

With all the crazy talk over Superman killing Zod in the latest movie it was fun to go back and see what our forebears thought on the subject. Well, they didn't seem to worry too much about it it seems. The serials always had great ways of doing in hero and villain alike and Marvel is no slouch in this serial either. Sundry natives, various of the Scorpion's henchmen all end up directly dead because of him or inadvertently dead when he fails to rescue them. Never seemed to trouble the kids of the day it seems. The bad guys got their comeuppance and that was that!

......and it is far more entertaining than Man of Steel.

(-_-) This has to be one of the dumbest comments ever!

Captain Marvel is supposed to be a superhero, but instead he is a killer. The bullets bounce off his chest, so his life is not in danger when they fire upon him with a machine gun. Yet he disarms the bad guys, then SHOOTS THEM IN THE BACK with their own machine gun as they run away unarmed. I have no problem with Superman killing Zod in Man of Steel. Superman didn't have a choice. But to see Captain Marvel shoot a couple of unarmed regular guys who are running away in the back? This is murder. I don't know what maddens me more, the fact he did that, the fact Shazam didn't remove his powers for that crime or the fact that even today nobody seems to care?

Ban pan and scan!

I'm with mejsmith on this one. The Captain Marvel serials are fun, and quite well-made. They are entertaining to watch, as opposed to the drab slog that is Man of Steel.

Man of Steel isn't even in the same ballpark in terms of quality or entertainment value as Captain Marvel. Had the creators of Man of Steel taken the time to watch Captain Marvel, and some other old serials, maybe their film wouldn't have been so terrible.

I watched this serial as a kid at Saturday Morning Cinema in about 1973, and I remember some parts very well. I'd love to see it again.

I'd never seen it before, but have heard it's considered the best of the old serials, so I bought it on DVD. I've been showing it to my children, who love it. They look forward to seeing a new episode each day. Tomorrow we'll watch the final episode and, I assume, at last learn the Scorpion's true identity!

Nice! I remember thinking the flying was pretty convincing. Wonder if I'd still think so.
