young wendy

hi i wonder if anyone could help m. ive been wondering for some time how they managed to incorporate clips of young temple with such aparent ease that it is almost unoticeable especially in the hawaiian dance. All the actors looked exactly the same and it looks as if they must have used a split screen to have young temple on stage at the same time as her onscreen parents and i didn't think those were around until the 60s. Am i wrong? And when her on screen father comes on holding "shirley" for the baby take a bow routine - who is this girl as it looks uncannily like shirley did when she was little - if i didn't know better I'd swear that it is temple!!
What are everyone's views on this and the film - i think its very underrated and although i love shirley and her films many are very predictable which is a shame for her, but i think this is slightly less.

Oh and it may be just me but i swear the farm they live on in this one is the exact same one they live on in rebecca of sunnybrook farm - exteriors and interiors. has anyone noticed this?

Fox used clips from Shirley's early movies to create the young Wendy scenes. The Hawaiian dance is from Curly Top and the baby take a bow routine is from Stand Up and Cheer (or possibly Baby Take a Bow... I'm not sure exactly). As to the farm it probably is filmed in the same studio with a lot of the old Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm props.

This film was made in 1940, not the 60's. I was also wondering what method they used way back then to incorporate the old clips of Shirley, maybe it was the "matte" system. Hard to explain, but more than likely that's how they did it (part of the screen is blacked out while they film a scene)...
I'm so surprised there aren't more comments about this film. It's a great, innocent movie and I love Charlotte Greenwood, she was a hoot. I love her line in this movie "She must have been weened on a pickle!"
I loved Charlotte in Oklahoma too.
