Lana dances so well.

I was surprised how good she was. But im glad she didn't go down the mgm musical route. She was better served with more serious roles.

Hey, she really does come off well in this one, doesn't she??

I too am glad she didn't go that MGM musical route, but after seeing this I kinda wish that she'd done at least a few more!

George Murphy gets to be pretty annoying. Joan Blondell is wonderful as always.

What stupid posts. Turner couldn't sing at all and wasn't that great
a dancer. There would've been no reason for her to do musicals. And
if you knew what you were talking about, you'd know she DID do a few
more - "The Merry Widow" remake, for one.

gbennett5 ~ What stupid posts...

And what a wonderfully intelligent reply from a, I'm sure, certified genius. Are you just an annoying piss-ant who likes to parade your stupidity in public? or, are you deserving of pity because you're incapable of helping your pathetic self? Please, instead of getting your panties in a bunch and shrieking hysterically, stay up there in your lofty aerie where the company you keep is of such fabulously high calibre wit so that us poor, dumb folks of the unwashed prole masses can have our dull discussions in peace.

I've been going through a number of Lana Turner's earlier films lately and the couple I've seen thus far where she sang a song or danced a bit were a refreshing surprise. I saw the Merry Widow quite some time ago but didn't really like it. Young, vivacious, lovely and engaging early Lana appearing in a musical was a pleasure for myself to discover.

Anyway, I hadn't expected to see that she could actually acquit herself whilst carrying a tune and cutting a rug. Was she destined to conquer Broadway? clearly not. But, her onscreen appeal enabled her to put the parts over rather well and, I thought, made for a greatly pleasurable film viewing experience, much more so than any I can remember with, say, stalwart Broadway veterans who come across as unpleasant brassy shrews, the likes of, say, Liza Minelli or that bane of filmdom, Barbara Streisand.
