I give it an 8. The Duke is just the Duke, the girl is lovely, and Hollywood really seemed to have an inexhaustible supply of supporting character actors. I've really started getting into Westerns lately and I seem to learn another piece of American history from each one. Whilst I'd seen Grapes of Wrath many years ago, I didn't really get from it any comprehension that the Dust Bowls of the 1930s had caused such a mass migration of people. Then again, now we have Wikipedia to help out.

It was not a great film. It came across as nothing more than a propaganda film shoe horning dialogue about the Nazis and how America was the place to be for a new life. This along with the sub plot of Wanye's character trying to keep the local towns folk together all tied in with the notion of that we all must stick together to see through the hard times. Personally I do not find it intriguing to watch.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

So the film puts Nazis in a bad light and that upsets you?

Uh oh..... Let me just say, there's no coming back from that statement no matter how you try to spin it.
