I loved John Justin in this, his accent was wonderful

I agree. I liked John Justin a lot too. He was perhaps a bit overshadowed by Conrad Veidt, who came close to stealing every scene he was in. But John Justin was convincing as the somewhat unworldly king who was lucky enough to win the friendship of Abu the thief. His scene in the Palace garden with June Duprez was wonderfully done.

He is truly BEAUTIFUL in this movie...

THAT SUPPLE HAIRLESS TORSO WITH THE NICEST OF BELLY-BUTTONS!

John was interviewed in a documentary about Sabu in the section where they were talking about this film. John said he thought that he was hired because although he wasn't the best actor around, (this was his first film and he got better) he was one of the prettiest

And they did make him do that strip-tease when they get on the boat to escape.

While agree that John Justin was good in this film, one thing that has always bothered me was his teeth.

If you watch carefully, it looks like he filmed about 1/2 of his scenes, and then got caps put on his front teeth. In the first half of the movie and some scenes in the second halt, his teeth look like rows of corn kernels on a cob.

"THAT SUPPLE HAIRLESS TORSO WITH THE NICEST OF BELLY-BUTTONS!" Omgosh, hahaha!

Throughout the movie, from some angles, it kept hitting me that his face looks a lot like Zac Efron's. There are obvious differences, of course, but his nose, cheeks, and something about his face shape and mouth look a lot like him. Does anyone else see what I mean?

IMHO, I thought John Justin was horrid in this movie. I've never seen such phony acting in all my life.

xnet95:

Some scenes he was a bit stiff and awkward, but he is a young, geeky, king, probably in his late teens .

He has led a very sheltered life under his father's thumb, and then Jaffar's. He has no practical experience,

until he learns from Abu.

reply

His acting sucked and delivery grated, too affected. And little Sabu was built ten times better than the romantic hero; rather embarrassing in context.

reply

He sounds like he is channeling Ronald Colman. :)
