Should rate higher, agree?

This film should rate higher than 7.9, i'd give it a perfect 10, just as great as wizard of oz and christmas carol with Alastair Sim, peace and love to all !

reply

Absolutely. One of my very favourites, a staggeringly beautiful movie and unfairly overlooked as the best of all fantasty adventures. I like The Wizard of Oz but would take The Thief of Bagdad over it any day of the week. A 10 from me - one of very few films that I love a little more every time I see it.

reply

Yes it deserves a higher rating. It was much more creative and fascinating than the Wizard of Oz.

I actually am rather pleased with its score. It wasn't fantastic, but it was good to say the least.

reply

yes = deserves the highest rating !

I think it's rating accurately reflects this movie's enjoyability. The performance of John Justin and June Duprez were horrible and bring this film down a few notches.
It's a nice way to burn a couple hours, but it doesn't have the same captivating magic of Wizard of Oz.

reply

No, I'd say a bit lower.

One of my top ten movies! Its filled with witty dialogue and tons of information and wisdom in the text. Like a fantasy written by Schakespeare, with genius Conrad Veidt, dreamy beauty of June Deprez and the timeless, endlessly charming Sabu! But actually quite terrifying in the way Veidt portraits evil.. 10/10

I have always loved this movie, and have seen it at least 5 times,my first when I was a kid,in the 50's.Way ahead of its time, and I imagine a wonderful fantasy for children everywhere.I have always loved movies with genies, alladin, magic and dreamy ending..

When was the last time you saw it?

I find that as much as its called a great matinee and a childrenfilm, its also a grown up film. Very intense, and more complex than a childrenfilm. Veidts character is so evil and almost insane, and still he really loves Depre´z character, so much he really dont want her to be his slave. Its a wonder of cinematic experience, and there are layers of information in the film that people dont even touch when discussing them on the board!

Nice`:)

TCM showed this movie on Wednesday night, and I also taped it.I agree the movie is wonderfully fun for adults, too.I love seeing this movie from an adult prospective.I see something different every time I see it.Of course after every movie,I see, I research the film on IMDB.I just learned that the genie,Rex Ingram, was black,I had no idea.I'm just glad he found work in films, when his ancestry was discriminated against,so unfairly, back in the day.I imagine the hindu's in the film had to be from Britain, and I didn't know that the production moved to the US,from Britain, because of the war.Does anyone know how much the movie cost to make, and what the box office take was?

I don´t consider "The Thief..." superior to "Wizard of Oz" but it definitely is a masterpiece. I rated it ten, a wonderful movie. I second everything else that has been commented above.
