I am a big fan of the 1960 Disney remake and was wondering whether everybody thought this version was better or worse, and if I should bother hunting it down somewhere.
shareThe 1940 version had better acting and the story was much more realistic.
shareIt’s a long time since I saw this one but I was underwhelmed. As a fan of the book and the 1960 movie I was looking forward to this - and it does have a strong cast, with a rare leading role for that wonderful character actor Thomas Mitchell - but I remember it as rather dry and humourless. I would probably give it another look, though.
