Melodrama

I'm surprised that nobody commented on what is to me one of the best parts of this film -- the melodrama. One part that always tickles me is when the squire tells Nell that he's going to tie her to the railroad tracks, and she says, "The railroad tracks! Oh, this is the end!", as her hair moves up off her forhead. It's so silly and unexpected. I find this to be much better than either of the two ministrel shows in "Babes And Arms" and "Babes On Broadway", even without considering the racism of the minstrel shows.
