Glee Blueprint

I love this movie as it is the Blueprint for the TV show Glee.

Somewhat overaged actors pretending to be teens in High School. They are always putting on shows with no rehersal and overblown sets. They all somehow know the same songs and the backup band is never given any credit. In the finale, they announce Mickey as the winner then have him conduct a band made up of all the groups and yet they didn't have time to practice a song with Mickey conducting. And since nobody knew that Mickey would win, how would he prepare the finale? And all of the girls are wearing the same dress except for Judy.

Plus during the finale, at one point Mickey changes from a Tux to a military uniform in less than a second. This is exactly what Glee does. And I love it.

I also loved the stage play they used to raise money. My God the sets they used along would have cost more than the $200 dollars they needed to get to Chicago.

And how exactly can a broken arm be so serious, that it could cause death in a matter of hours if he didn't have surgery? Plus the band gets to Chicago almost as fast as Willie does and they go by train and he went by plane. I guess planes were slower back then and trains were faster. It had be laughing at all of the plot holes and goofy twists.

But I love this movie and I love Glee. Musicals don't have to make sense, they're MUSICALS. Just enjoy.

Good comments, radioriot! The "let's put on a show!" theme was a constant for the Garland-Rooney pairings.

We have to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the 1930s-1940s musicals for what they are. Escapist entertainment at its best.

The seriousness of Willie's fractured arm could be interpreted as its needing amputation, not causing his death.
