Pirovitch and "I want your honest opinion"

Why does Pirovitch always retreat when he hears, "I want your honest opinion"?

reply

Because Pirovitch does not want to give his honest opinion. He values his job and doesn't want to risk it by saying what he really thinks. That's why it's so unexpected when he tells Matuschek that he's made a mistake in firing Kralik.

reply

He also took a big risk in telling his boss that he and Kralik had discussed how the new window display should look.

AND when he told him firing Kralik was basically a mistake. He does have some stones, indeed!

reply

He was afraid of the boss and of losing his job.
