The Monkey Is Respectful To The Queen

Did anyone notice how that monkey, when he bursts into the Queen's Audience Chamber tips his hat to her ? I thought it was very funny. He knew she was the Queen of England and was "bowing down" to her in a way. He was an English monkey LOL

Maybe you don't know the back story on that monkey- it was Flynn's own pet monkey and he trained it to do tricks like that. Flora Robson looked a bit apprehensive around that monkey too- who knows what Flynn had it doing when the cameras weren't rolling. As corny as the scenes are with it in them, darn if that monkey doesn't steal them! (<:

That monkey's name was Chico and Flynn loved having him in the film with him! Chico behaved himself on the set, because he had a habit of scratching people's palms at one house party Flynn gave. Chico's scenes were terribly cute to me and well done. Several Flynn pets ended up in pictures: his stallion Onyx is in "San Antonio" and is the Black horse Custer is riding to his last stand(in a dressage step) in "They died with their boots on". Flynn's daschund is seen in the Yacht scenes in Orson Welles "The Lady from Shanghai" since it is Flynn's yacht Zaca in the film. Flynn also did all the aerial photography for that film's yacht scenes and is in the film incognito.

Monkeys are evil and should burn in Hell.

onetimeonly & sktdoctor7 – Thanks for the fascinating backstory on this. In the context of the movie, I think we can assume that the monkey was trained to do the doffing the hat show of respect to the Queen on the long voyage back from the new world.

liscarkat-2 – guess Planet of the Apes was the scariest horror movie ever for you.

You're welcome. The backstory is fun to know. I used to post as onetimeonly. This is one of my favorite older films. Great score as well.
