TCM showing on 3.10.14- horrible print!

My god it's been out on Warner DVD since 2005 in a good transfer so where did TCM find this moth-eaten print???

reply

I've noticed that the last few times TCM has broadcast it; disappointing, since Warner's supplied the revival market with a sparkling new 35mm print back in the '70s.

However, I am watching a beautiful copy of it now (6/22/14) on TCM. Hopefully, this will be the one they access from now on.

Good, it must've been the DVD version finally. There is one small section where the original film elements must have been too deteriorated to match the rest of the DVD restoration (the meal in Thorpe's ship cabin with Dona Maria and her uncle).

I will say my DVD did break up just a bit here and there. It is from the collection Warner's put out with Captain Blood, Dodge City and Elizabeth and Essex.

reply

Yeah the Warner DVD has a few moments of film deterioration evident particularly in the dining scene in the ship's cabin but other than that it's a pretty good print- the version I saw on TCM was vastly inferior throughout the film.
