A lot of the older movies on IMDB gets higher score by film snobs and hipsters, but this is a genuinely good movie.
The the dialogue is snappy, the characters lovable and the overall feel of the movie is just positive and fun.

Yes, a near excellent film. Editing, pacing, acting, sound, story, they are all there. I finally have seen it and love it. 9 out of 10.
Agree. A terrific movie, maybe the best of all the Flynn swashbucklers: great action scenes, intrigue, spot on cast, and most of all, Korngold’s thunderous score. I rate Sea Hawk just above Adventures of Don Juan, another fine Flynn movie which has the advantage of Technicolor plus a Korngold-esque Max Steiner score.

shareA lot of older movies get high scores because they're damned good, especially compared to most of the crap produced today. It has nothing to do with hipsters, who have no clue about anything, beginning with hipness.
