Inspiration for The Carpenter's 'Goodbye to Love'!?!

Just watching a documentary about The Carpenters in which Richard reveals that he got the idea for this song whilst watching 'Rhythm on the River' late one night on TV.

In the movie, songwriter Oliver Courtney, played by Basil Rathbone, keeps referring to his best-ever song entitled 'Goodbye to Love' but the song itself is never heard.

Richard liked the sound of the title and heard the melody in his head.

The rest, as they say, is history.....
