One of the members at imcdb updated the description to a 1937 Chrysler Royal Convertible Coupe(C-16)( a "barrel nose").

On the subject of cars: Note when Lee and John return to New York from Niagara Falls and are riding in a taxi. There are two different scenes of stock traffic footage viewed from the taxi rear window. The first, viewed straight out the back, shows only squarish 1920s and early '30s cars. The second, an angled view with the camera on Lee, shows streamlined cars of the mid-1930s through the window. When the camera reverts to showing the couple, cars of the earlier vintage are seen again.

Yes, I noticed the 1920s cars and clothing styles in the rear projection. Next time you watch "Singin' in the Rain," watch the process shots of traffic and you'll see late 1940s cars in the background (the movie is set in 1927). They think we're not paying attention!.
