Pinocchio technically wasn't even a real boy...

So how was he even able to fall under that Donkey spell..........or almost did (only ears and tail).

I thought pleasure island was a place where kids (mainly boys) turn into donkeys. But wouldn't Pinocchio be an exception since he was still a puppet made of wood?
