Book vs Movie

Anyone read the original Carlo Collodi book? I read a translated version recently. It differs greatly. It's very dark, even darker than the Disney version, which is dark by Disney standards. The cricket character seems to be supernatural, and the book also features many scenes and characters omitted from the Disney cartoon, such as the monstrous Green Fisherman (I would have loved to see this character).

Both the original book and the Disney adaptation are great in my opinion. But I wondered if anyone had some scenes from the original they'd love to see in future adaptations.
